About the instructors: John Heldman brings over 28 years of experience to the management of investment portfolios. Prior to founding Triad, he was a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Neuberger Berman. John has also managed investment portfolios for Deutsche Bank, Scudder Investments and Bank of America, including managing equity funds and serving on the Equity Strategy Committee. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Master of Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach. John is a CFA charterholder, and a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Orange County.

Dave Hutchison has twenty years of experience in investment management. Prior to joining Triad, he served as Investment Strategist for Chamberlain Group, directing investment manager research. Dave also founded and managed Hutchison Capital, a registered investment advisor. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Macalester College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. Dave is a CFA charterholder, and a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Orange County.

About the instructor: Dave Sather is president of the Sather Financial Group, Inc, a “fee-only” financial planning and investment management firm which manages approximately $440 million in client assets. Dave was raised in El Paso, Texas and received his B.A. in Business Management from Texas Lutheran University and received his M.B.A. from Texas A&M University. He has spent the past twenty years in the financial analysis, investment and banking industries. Prior to starting Sather Financial, he worked for PaineWebber and served as the head of portfolio management for First Victoria National Bank's Trust Department and oversaw the bank's brokerage operations. Dave also serves as an adjunct professor in the Business program at Texas Lutheran University, is a member of the schools Executive Advisory Council and serves on the schools Investment Committee. Additionally, he is a director of Business Bank of Texas. He and his wife, Carol, live in Victoria, Texas.

About the session: David Barr and Felix Narhi will unveil their best wide-moat investment idea.

About the instructors: David Barr, CFA is the President and CEO of Pender. He is also Co-Chief Investment Officer, working with Felix Narhi in setting the direction of Pender’s overall value-based investment strategy, as well as being the Portfolio Manager of several of Pender’s funds. David has over 17 years of investment experience. He initially worked in private equity which gives him a unique background to investing capital. At the end of 2007 he became a partner at Pender and was appointed Chief Investment Officer with the objective of launching Pender’s mutual fund business. In April 2016 David was appointed President and CEO of Pender. David holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2003 and is an active member of the Vancouver chapter. He is a past President of CFA Vancouver, having also served on its Board of Directors for four years.

Felix Narhi, CFA is the Co-Chief Investment Officer of Pender. As such he works alongside David Barr, Pender’s President and Co-Chief Investment Officer, in setting the direction of Pender’s overall value-based investment strategy. Felix is the Portfolio Manager of the Pender US All Cap Equity Fund and the Pender Strategic Growth and Income Fund, and Co-Manager of the Pender Value Fund. He has over 16 years of experience of analysing and investing in US equities. Before joining Pender Felix spent nine years at an independent and value-oriented investment firm in Vancouver. As a Director and Senior Equity Analyst he contributed thought leadership and primarily US investment equity ideas to its Model Portfolio, a concentrated equity portfolio that has outpaced North American benchmarks since its inception in 1994. Felix holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2003 and is a member of CFA Vancouver.

Richard attended Hampden-Sydney College where he graduated summa cum laude in three years with a B.S. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Economics and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Richard serves on the Board of Trustees of Hampden-Sydney.
